Think December. What comes to mind? Holiday shopping, vacations, shattered diets, office party antics. But a new job? Not so much… think again. According to staffing specialist, Robert McCauley, December is chock full of prime employment opportunities. Squeeze a little job searching into this chilly Canadian December. Employment opportunities abound. Here’s why.

Out to Lunch

With so much going, it’s easy to put off the job search until the New Year. But don’t. Rudolph didn’t make head reindeer by slacking off and laying low.

With less competition around, your resume will glow in the haze attracting employers from miles away. Want proof? Check out the job postings and make sure your stocking is filled with printer ink.

All kinds of jobs are out there at this time of year, especially in retail. Tis the season to consume and employers need many elves to ensure customers are satisfied and profits are robust. Seasonal jobs can turn into permanent positions if you perform well and are a likable character. Nobody wants to work for or with a Grinch.

Move over sugar plums, now visions of budget surpluses are dancing in employers’ heads. For many companies, not using allocated hiring funds by the end of the year means losing that portion of funds in the next year’s budget. Use or lose as they say and that’s good news for you.
And with all the excitement of the holiday season, hiring managers often have more time on their hands thus more time for you to secure an interview.

A Candidate for Every Season

The truth is employers are always looking for great candidates. Most have a bank of resumes for those just in case moments. While your friends, family and colleagues are abusing the eggnog and returning their gifts during boxing week- you can make December the month that made you really and truly happy.
