Top Family-Friendly Employers for 2007
By Melanie Joy Douglas, Monster.ca
Today’s Parent, Canada’s number one parenting magazine, just revealed the country’s top ten family-friendly employers. These companies help to set the standard with on-site daycare, paid family leave days, adoption benefits, scholarship programs for employees' children, and compassionate leave to take care of family members.
In a statement released to the press, Today's Parent Editor-in-Chief Caroline Connell said, "It's great to see parents and employers working together to hammer out creative solutions to the work-family crunch." With its third annual listing, the magazine also profiles five parents who have found the right work-home mix for them.
The Top 10 (listed largest to smallest):
- RCMP, Ottawa, ON
- University of Toronto, Toronto, ON
- University Health Network/UHN, Toronto, ON
- Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co., Mississauga, ON
- Ernst & Young LLP, Toronto, ON
- Toronto Hydro Corp., Toronto, ON
- Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, Kirkland, QC
- Jacques Whitford Ltd., Darmouth, NS
- Royal Canadian Mint, Ottawa, ON
- Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto, Toronto, ON
To compile its annual list, Today's Parent joined forces with the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. More than 5,000 growing employers were invited to fill out a detailed questionnaire about their human resources policies and offer independent proof such as photos or newsletter articles. The result is a list of employers, both large and small, who have policies geared specifically towards working parents.
